DEFINITION:

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Conduct in-depth research using automated and manual systems (e.g., NIBRS, Motorola FLEX, and other law enforcement databases) to support investigative and analytical needs.
Prepare periodic and ad hoc analytical reports and presentations for command staff, executive management, and governing bodies regarding crime activity, high-incidence areas, and operational impacts.
Monitor, maintain, and manage crime, arrest, and intelligence data within records and analytical systems to ensure accuracy, completeness, security, and compliance with applicable laws and Department policies.
Assist with oversight of records-related workflows, including quality control of reports and data submissions and coordination of public records request responses.
Validate and vet data sources to ensure information reliability, credibility, and analytical integrity.
Provide user support related to analytical and records systems, including identifying software needs and assisting with troubleshooting.
Present analytical findings at briefings, command staff meetings, and other Departmental forums.
Participate in Departmental and Citywide strategic planning efforts.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and relevant intelligence partners to exchange crime information.
Attend meetings, briefings, and training as required to maintain technical proficiency, certifications, and awareness of best practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s in criminal justice, public administration, social/behavioral science, computer science, statistics, or a closely related field, and at least two-years of complex statistical and analytical experience with a governmental agency, preferably within a municipal setting. A master’s degree is desirable and may be substituted for one-year related experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: three years of increasingly responsible analytical and/or research experience, preferably in a law enforcement agency, AND training equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in mathematics/statistics, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field. A Master's degree is desirable. .

Complete Requests for Information (RFIs) for collecting, collating, and analyzing information generated from Law Enforcement databases and Real-Time Open Source Analysis (ROSA)
Conduct Real-Time Open Source Analysis (ROSA) for special events, suspicious activity, and identifying potential public safety threats
Provide intelligence and analytical case support to Orange County Sheriff's Department and outside agencies when appropriate
Develop and provide formal training on topics of interest
Maintain situational awareness regarding emerging crime trends and law enforcement tactics and investigative techniques. Remain current on emerging topics and technologies as it relates to electronic research and attend related seminars, lectures and other training and development activities as the department develops technological advancements to protect the public
Collect and document facts during an event, and maintain activity logs and other documentation while in a law enforcement setting
Provide testimony in court on the processing and examination of evidence when required

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Bachelor's degree or higher and experience (Bachelor's degree or higher with an emphasis in intelligence studies, international relations, political science, criminal justice, statistics, public policy, or related field preferred)

DEFINITION

The City of Redondo Beach is looking for a part-time Administrative Coordinator to join the Crime Analysis Unit in our Police Department!

Qualifications

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A typical way to obtain this knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in criminal justice, police sciences or a related field is required.

AND

Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing research, statistical, or crime analysis in a law enforcement agency.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and good driving record.

Possession of a Crime and Intelligence Analysis certificate (CCIA) from the California Department of Justice within 18 months of appointment.
