The Crime Analyst performs highly specialized professional work involving the compilation, maintenance, analysis, and integration of crime and related statistical data to support Police Department operations. This position applies advanced analytical methods to identify crime patterns, trends, groups, and individuals, and provides actionable intelligence for tactical, strategic, and administrative planning and decision-making. The Crime Analyst is a civilian, non-sworn position responsible for performing complex professional and analytical duties requiring independent judgment, technical expertise, and a high degree of accuracy.

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Prepare and disseminate intelligence products, including crime pattern bulletins, known offender bulletins, threat assessments, link charts, and statistical summaries.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Conduct in-depth research using automated and manual systems (e.g., NIBRS, Motorola FLEX, and other law enforcement databases) to support investigative and analytical needs.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Prepare periodic and ad hoc analytical reports and presentations for command staff, executive management, and governing bodies regarding crime activity, high-incidence areas, and operational impacts.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Monitor, maintain, and manage crime, arrest, and intelligence data within records and analytical systems to ensure accuracy, completeness, security, and compliance with applicable laws and Department policies.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Assist with oversight of records-related workflows, including quality control of reports and data submissions and coordination of public records request responses.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Validate and vet data sources to ensure information reliability, credibility, and analytical integrity.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Provide user support related to analytical and records systems, including identifying software needs and assisting with troubleshooting.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Present analytical findings at briefings, command staff meetings, and other Departmental forums.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Participate in Departmental and Citywide strategic planning efforts.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and relevant intelligence partners to exchange crime information.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="background-color: transparent;"&gt;Attend meetings, briefings, and training as required to maintain technical proficiency, certifications, and awareness of best practices.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s in criminal justice, public administration, social/behavioral science, computer science, statistics, or a closely related field, and at least two-years of complex statistical and analytical experience with a governmental agency, preferably within a municipal setting. A master’s degree is desirable and may be substituted for one-year related experience.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Research, gather, and analyze complex data from police arrests, crime reports and statistics to identify crime trends/patterns and “hot spots”.&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Direct the collection and analysis of crime data.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Design and format department databases for maintaining and tracking statistical information to identify crime patterns. Extract and present information as requested. Recommend systems or software to improve department processes to police management.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Research, create and approve all confidential law enforcement bulletins, such as “WANTED” flyers, Missing Persons, and crime watch alerts.&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Prepare reports, charts, maps, posters and other visual presentations in support of management staff.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Communicate with outside law enforcement agencies and collaborate with other crime analysts on mutual cases. Develop and maintain positive liaison with other criminal justice personnel and others in the course of work.&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Collect, analyze and report on data from new and cold cases.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Develop crime prevention concepts based on statistic data. Assist in the development of tactics, strategies and planning in response to crime trends.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information, data and items of evidence.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;May be required to testify in court, and/or court appearances.&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Maintain prompt and regular attendance.&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Perform non-emergency law enforcement duties as assigned.&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and good driving record.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
  &lt;li&gt;Possession of a Crime and Intelligence Analysis certificate (CCIA) from the California Department of Justice within 18 months of appointment. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Microsoft Office Applications including Social Media. &amp;nbsp;in addition to experience with audio-visual equipment used in presentations the ideal candidate will also possess strong written and oral communication skills, and innovative ideas.&lt;br&gt;
