Under the direction of the Chief of Police or designee, performs crime analysis duties including research, statistical and analytical work. Performs work under general instructions and exercises independent judgment working within established policies and procedures; performs related duties as required to achieve successful results in support of the City's mission, goals, policies and objectives.

This at-will, part-time position and is not eligible for City benefits. Prompt application is encouraged.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

This position is accountable as a team member to perform administrative and support duties and services including but not limited to:

  • Performs analytic research and exercises sound decision-making skills and critical thinking in addressing criminal activity problems; provides completed staff work with professional recommendations
  • Researches, analyzes, evaluates and audits information form a variety of sources, including crime reports, calls for service, demographic reports, and other law enforcement sources
  • Recognizes crime series, patterns, and trends; determines/interprets the significance of the data; determines and develops conclusions regarding criminal activity
  • Analyzes crime data descriptors and variables; correlates this information with evolving or existing crime series, patterns, and trends to assist patrol, investigative and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention, intervention and suppression of criminal activity.
  • Develops crime/suspect and suspect/crime correlations; research various offender data files, places, events and relationships to provide investigative leads to detectives and other personnel
  • Shares information, reports, resources, knowledge and recommendations to support community and intelligence-led policing, crime prevention, and problem-solving efforts; police patrol functions, apprehension of suspects, criminal investigations and criminal prosecution efforts
  • Meets with Command Staff, supervisors and other personnel to discuss crime activity for the purpose of deployment, tactical action, strategic planning, and resource allocation to respond to community needs
  • Assists in case clearance processes by providing information to link suspect(s) to other offenses for which they may be responsible
  • Communicates clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with fellow employees, other law enforcement agency personnel and the public; prepares well written reports and makes effective presentations to Department personnel and to the public and other groups
  • Initiates and disseminates specialized crime analysis reports, including crime bulletins, crime maps, timelines, flow charts and link analysis related to criminal activity. Creates final products for both law enforcement and community use
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of budgets and grants
  • Plans, coordinates and performs administrative assignments and special projects in relation to the position; works as a team member in a dynamic environment
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and works cooperatively with co-workers, City staff, outside agency personnel and the community
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings, maintains awareness of new technology, trends and developments in the field of crime and intelligence analysis, incorporates new developments as appropriate in the Crime Analysis Unit
  • Represents the department at meetings of professional organizations, other agencies, community groups or other gatherings. Makes presentations on crime related data
  • Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive information; uses discretion when distributing and/or disclosing such information, keeps appropriate documentation
  • Delivers outstanding internal and external customer service
  • Plans and organizes work to meet changing priorities and deadlines; works independently to plan, coordinate and complete tasks and projects
  • Works irregular hours including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays (when necessary); must be available for call-back and automatic return to work with a reasonable response time during off-duty hours for major emergencies, disasters, critical incidents and as otherwise required
  • Exercises tact, self-restraint and good judgment; takes initiative to achieve positive, timely results for the organization with diplomatic skills and ethical conduct; conducts duties, responsibilities, tasks and assignments with a constructive, cooperative, positive and professional attitude and demeanor.
  • Supports the City's values of openness and honesty; integrity and ethics; accountability; outstanding customer service; teamwork; excellence; fiscal and environmental responsibility
  • Exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned personnel
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
