THE OPPORTUNITY

THE DIVISION

The newly formed Operations Support & Intelligence Division consists of the Emergency Communications Bureau, Counter Terrorism Bureau and the Real Time Operations Center. This division provides an innovative opportunity to address crime and serve our community with an emphasis on providing real-time support to operations and bolstering our proactive approach to counter-terrorism efforts.

THE POSITION

• Plans, organizes, and directs research projects to determine the effect of, and need for, various County programs; directs the design of research models, development and selection of statistical and analytical methods; collection and interpretation of field data, and development of findings and recommendations. 
• Advises supervisors and management staff regarding the mission of the research unit supervised and the objectives, methodologies, time requirements, feasibility of major research projects; recommends new projects and explained their contribution to operational objectives; evaluates proposed projects and suggests modifications; reports to managers on the status of projects in progress; advises managers and official bodies on the significance of preliminary and final recommendations.  
• Assigns work to subordinates; advises and instructs subordinates regarding general objectives, research methodology and scheduling requirements for new projects and work in progress; reviews work in progress and finished work for completeness, accuracy and conformance to professional standards; trains subordinates in research and analytical methods, particularly as they pertain to the analysis of specific programs of the employing agency/department; evaluates the work of subordinates and advises them on areas of further study to enhance professional knowledge, skills and abilities.  
• Gather, research, and analyze data to prepare analytical criminal intelligence products on current events, issues, and trends which affect or may affect Orange County, the State of California, and/or the United States
• Ensure subordinates are adequately trained to provide exemplary analytic support in the Real Time Operations Center to the operational area in exigent circumstances under stressful conditions.
• Employs best practice open source research techniques, social media applications, computer programming and information technologies while complying with all applicable privacy and civil liberty requirements
• Attend meetings, lectures and trainings hosted or sponsored by the Orange County Crime Analysts Association
• Complete Requests for Information (RFIs) for collecting, collating, and analyzing information generated from Law Enforcement databases and Real-Time Open Source Analysis (ROSA)
• Conduct Real-Time Open Source Analysis (ROSA) for special events, suspicious activity, and identifying potential public safety threats
• Provide intelligence and analytical case support to Orange County Sheriff's Department and outside agencies when appropriate

DEFINITION

The City of Redondo Beach is looking for a part-time Administrative Coordinator to join the Crime Analysis Unit in our Police Department!

Redondo Beach PD Cold Case Unit is looking for a part-time volunteer (retired) analyst to work with the 2 investigators in solving cold cases. The ideal addition to the team would be able to work independently, under general direction; be familiar with LE systems such as ViCAP, Cal Photo, Coplink, and other databases; have investigative experience in homicide, assault and missing persons cases.
